I absolutely love this. We are closing a chapter of 2 years of nomadic life for the sole reason that we NEED a deeper community (which requires we stay in one location longer than 3 months -ha!). We have ideas of what we can do to pursue an intentional community, but this takes it to a new level. As you were describing this, I thought "WOW. I want to meet some people in our new city and see if they want to watch the documentary with us and see how we can make it work for us." Then you said that was your vision. HA! Seriously, so so so grateful for you and what you are creating. This documentary will be such an incredible tool! THANK YOU.
Jill!! Gosh, how has it been two years already???? That is wild! I am sure that experience was such a formative experience for all of you -- I am in awe and inspired by you all!
Thank you for engaging here. You have no idea how much your comment means to me. The fact that I know there is ONE person who might use this as a tool in the way I dreaming of is so motivating!! #DoTtforJill will be my new m reminder when I am feeling the inevitable lows of a creative project (ie: WHY I AM DOING THIS DOES IT EVEN MATTER WHO DO I THINK I AM?!?!? LOLOLOL.) THANK YOU for being here on the journey!!!
Oh my goodness - absolutely. And... We will get back to the states in about 3 weeks... so if you could produce it on my timeline, that would just be great ;)
What you're doing matters - more than you know! Do not stop.
I was listening in the car and have so much to say I had to pull over πππ
LOVE the concept of giving people the spark to edit - so much easier than dreaming and ideating from scratch. Your college convo reminds me of a time in my life when I was DESPERATELY in love with a boy (not my husband). He was all wrong for me ultimately but he was a mirror who showed me what was possible and what I deserved and that gift was truly life hanging
Also I think a lot of this is our dumb American resistance to asking for help. A lot of times I ask for help I donβt really NEED because I want to normalize carrying life with others
Sign me up for commune life. Iβll bring the bucks.
Hahahahaha, ILYSM. I LOVE that way of seeing the world that even the things that "didn't work out" as often some of our most profound teachers and gifts.
And YES. I couldn't agree more that SO MUCH of what keeps us from the connections we long for is our very uniquely American obsession with independence and our disdain for "neediness" in others and even more in ourselves. I LOVE that you intentionally ask for help for BENEFIT of others in your orbit. I believe so so so much that every time you've done that, it has changed the fabric of the universe of your community. Counting on YOU to help normalize "high-functioning-do-it-all-baddie-women" leading by asking for help.
Yes! We donβt want to spark the βmust be niceβ cycle. But you donβt always know what will be helpful or hopeful for others so donβt let it keep you from sharing your truth!
THANK YOU π I'm ready to stop letting that fear keep me feeling kind of paralyzed. I know it won't be perfect but I don't want that fear to keep me from giving it my real earnest best shot.
Very excited for you and this project! I love this topic but honestly haven't heard it named in this way. Working with teens, we see the highs and lows of social health, especially in a smaller population area. And it has been made more dramatic in a resort town with young adults. Can't wait to hear what you share and picture Team Brandt needing to have a viewing night!
Ok, well the idea of Team Brandt having a viewing night someday honestly feels like a HUGE motivator to get this into the world. I am so grateful for the work you all are doing to create community and authentic connection for the young people in your world who need that support now more than ever!!
Following!! So glad youβve pinpointed this as an educational opportunity. Iβm feeling less social health as I age even though I consider myself very fortunate to have a number of loved ones, support, and frequent meaningful interactions - I often long for more. Cheering you on and consider me on call if youβd like support or a conversation or a cousin cameo!
UM I MIGHT TAKE YOU UP ON THIS!! Would love to wax poetic with you about this the next time we find ourselves in the same city!! Thanks for sharing and thanks for your encouragement. Means the world <3
So excited for a documentary on this topic! I hope it's a fun process and that it inspires tons of people to connect! You've inspired me to make connections with neighbors in the midst of feeling so overwhelmed by the current administration's devastating blows to immigrants and refugees. We just need some connection and reminders that there is goodness and kindness in the world.
Wow I am so humbled and grateful to know something I've said or did along the way helped nudge you in the direction of connection. This means so much to me! And it often is those "small steps" that can make such an enormous difference.
Hello! I love your desire to explain or articulate the 'how to'. The how-to has been so important for me in my relationship with Jesus. Thank you for taking the time and effort to communicate this.

As the wife of a filmmaker (and we have lived through a doc!) I couldnβt be more excited about this whole shebang!
It's only a matter of time before I call you in a panic. "TELL ME THIS IS A NORMAL PART OF THE PROCESS?????"

So very excited to follow you on this journey and listen and learn along the way! So proud of you for taking this ginormous leap! β€οΈ
Oh, thank you, Theresa!! That really means the world to me!!!!

Love this, Liz! I've heard a lot about social health but never really heard it positioned as just that. Can't wait to follow along. Per usual:).
Kirsten! Thank you so MUCH. So grateful you're along for the ride!!
